Melody’s formal education is in nursing. Melody began her insurance career in 1977 as a self-funded claims examiner for a third party administrator in Iowa City, Iowa. She made the transition into insurance sales in 1986. She is licensed in all lines, however, with her medical background; health insurance was the natural choice for specialization.

Melody joined Hausmann Insurance in January 1992 as the Manager of the Employee Benefits Division. In 1995 she was appointed to the Executive Planning Team at Hausmann Insurance, and in January of 1999 she was promoted to Partner in the firm. She continues to serve in an upper management capacity at Hausmann-Johnson Insurance, primarily in the Perpetuation Planning and Carrier Relationship roles.

Melody is a member of The Greater Madison Area Society for Human Resource Management, (SHRM). She has served on the Agent Advisory Boards of Midwest Security Administrators, Dean Health Plans, Physicians plus HMO, Unity Health Plans and the Alliance.

Melody served on the State Board of Directors of Wisconsin Association of Health Underwriters for three years and served as the Education Chair for the entirety of her tenure. She served on the Board of Directors of The Boys and Girls Club of Dane County, completing a two year term in January of 2007. Melody has also served on the Board of Directors for Vocational Consulting Services, most recently as the President.

She is currently the Chair of the Board of Directors for Community Living Services. She is a member of the Ethics Committee of the Village of De Forest, where she lives with her husband, John. Her son, Sam is a Senior at the UW Whitewater School of Business and her daughter, Sarah is a sophomore at UW Madison.
